Community Build with WindowDressers – Coming to Freeport this fall
passivhausMAINE is proud to once again join forces with WindowDressers for an upcoming community build event in Freeport this fall! While the exact date and location are still being finalized, planning is already in motion—and we’re actively seeking volunteers to help bring this impactful event to life.
Volunteer Opportunities
We’re looking for community members to join us in a variety of roles:
🛠 Measurers – Visit local homes to take precise window measurements, ensuring each insert fits snugly and functions effectively.
💡 Fundraisers – Help raise funds to support the project and keep the inserts affordable for all participants.
📋 Shift Leaders – Keep the build organized and efficient by helping to manage on-site volunteer shifts.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or entirely new to community builds, everyone is welcome—no experience required. Volunteers will receive training on-site and work as part of a friendly, hands-on team. If you’re interested in getting involved, even for just a few hours, reach out to Dori Lam at dori [a] passivhausmaine.org.
Our Measurer training for the 2025 build happens May 13 from 10a to 2p. Interested in being a measurer for this year’s event? Jump into our online training session. For more information, email Dori [a] passivhausmaine.org!
About WindowDressers
WindowDressers is a Maine-based nonprofit that brings together local volunteers to build custom, low-cost insulating window inserts. These inserts act as interior storm windows, helping homeowners cut down on heating bills, stay warmer in winter, and lower their reliance on fossil fuels. Durable and effective, the inserts typically last five to ten years.
Since 2010, WindowDressers has mobilized volunteers across Northern New England to build and install tens of thousands of inserts—creating warmer homes and more connected communities in the process.
Why It Matters
Volunteering with WindowDressers isn’t just about assembling inserts—it’s about community, climate action, and skill-building. You’ll meet new people, learn something new, and make a direct impact in helping your neighbors stay warm and save money.
